Curriculum Vitae Gerrit Veldink

Family name: Veldink
Given names: Gerhardus Albertus
Born: 12 September 1942, Borculo, The Netherlands

Gerrit Veldink received his PhD at Utrecht University with Prof. Jan Boldingh in 1971 with a thesis on
‘Formation and conversion of unsaturated fatty acid hydroperoxides by plant enzymes’.

His research – jointly with Prof. Hans Vliegenthart – has covered a wide variety of subjects and techniques with the aim of getting an insight into the structural aspects and molecular events of enzyme-catalyzed redox reactions.

In 1975 he was appointed Associate Professor; in 1996 he was appointed Professor of Biocatalysis at Utrecht University. Since 2003 he holds the Chair of Biomolecular Chemistry at this University. He has obtained Senior Qualifications in Research and Teaching from Utrecht University.

Current Research

His current research interests include structural and functional aspects of hydroperoxide lyase and related enzymes of the oxylipin cascade in plants, and endocannabinoids.

He teaches Bio-organic Chemistry and Biocatalysis courses for undergraduate students of Chemistry, Biology, and Biomedical Sciences.
